David loves exploring various artistic mediums such as watercolour, oil, acrylic, charcoal, pastels, and ink.
Whilst working in the UK in 2001 & 2002, David discovered a wealth of weekend art workshops scattered throughout the UK. For several years, he eagerly combined his passion for exploration and travel with his newfound love for art, journeying across the UK every weekend. David had the pleasure of learning from a diverse group of talented artists, including watercolourists like Ron Ranson and Trevor Waugh, as well as Elda Abramson in ink painting, Margaret Evans in pastels, and even delving into Chinese watercolour techniques.
Upon returning to Australia, he continued this delightful blend of travel and art by attending workshops in Victoria and NSW, where he learned from renowned watercolourists such as Joseph Zbuchvic, Alvaro Castagnet, Greg Allen, David Taylor, Malcolm Beattie, and Robert Wade. David also participated in oil painting workshops led by John Wilson, Warwick Fuller, and Colly Whisson.
In the USA David has attended workshops with Susan Lyon and Scott Burdick. In 2013 he took time off work to travel to Florence to attend the Michael Angel Academy of Art, and then on to the UK to the studio academy of Nicholas Beer to study the art of portraiture using the method of ‘Sight Size’.
David is a member of the Victorian Arts Society (VAS), the Watercolour Society of Victoria (WSV), the Pastel Society of Victoria Australia (PSVA) and Hobsons Bay Arts Society (HBAS). David has been leading weekend workshops that specialise in drawing, sketching, watercolour and life drawing sessions at his Altona Studio for several years. As a tutor, he aims to identify the best techniques to guide students in seeing the world through an artist's eyes and nurturing their individual artistic styles.
